The Late Pat Daly

Pat Daly from Altnaveagh (Augher), who passed to his eternal reward recently, gave many years of superb service to Augher St Macartan's GAC.

He was one of the founding members involved in the St Macartan club's formative days, performing many roles down through the years on and off the football field.

From management duties to administrative work and plenty in between, Pat was never afraid to put in the hard graft needed to help the St Macartan's club thrive at all levels.

Pat Daly deserves pride of place of the forefront of the Augher St Macartan's club story for dedicated service and supreme loyalty shown down through the decades.

Pat, father of former county senior player Seamus (Shay) Daly and grandfather of current county minor Sean Hackett, followed the fortunes of Augher and Tyrone plus various others teams with avid interest right to the conclusion of his life here on earth.

A steady stream of callers at Pat's wake came to pay their respects, several with tales to tell and memories to relate not just in football terms but about the man himself and his endearing character.

Pat Daly met countless people through his working and day-to-day life, encountering some memorable characters along the way. He could tell some funny stories about such meetings, building up to the punch-line with clever comic timing.

The funeral to St Macartan's 'Forth' Chapel drew a large crowd from various walks of life that said plenty about Pat's popularity.
