McCann, Brendan

February 28, 2009
The late Brendan McCann If they had ever been handing out All Star awards for the supporters, Donaghmore man Brendan McCann would definitely have been a penalty kick to get one. So it's no surprise that his fellow fans throughout the length and breadth of the county were plunged into deep sadness when news spread last weekend of the death of the man generally hailed as Tyrone's top follower. He may have been living in Monaghan for quite a few years, but he was a Red Hands man through and through and he loved to proudly nail his red and white colours to the mast, especially if there was a camera around. A great character, he epitomised all that is good in sport - not just in Gaelic Games, but sport in general. He loved his days out following the county's teams and was there on all the big days to celebrate the Tyrone successes. He died far too soon, but will have gone to his maker a happy man after watching his beloved county win the Sam Maguire Cup three times - something that must have seemed an impossible dream just a few short years ago. - Tyrone Times, February 2009
