A huge darkness has descended among the Clonoe footballing community and further afield as the news spread of the sad and untimely death of life long Clonoe Gael Joe McCabe. Joe and his brother Frank as well as his late brothers Gerry, John and Brendan were all huge figures within our club. Joe is a former playing member and was part of the Parish Juvenile Team that won the Championship in 1958. He was in Goals in 1964 and 1965 as Clonoe won the Senior Championship. In 1976, Joe was again in Goals as Clonoe won the Intermediate Championship. As well as playing for our club, Joe has held every position within our club from chairperson to bus driver. Every role that Joe undertook, no matter how big or small, he did it with diligence. Joe has been an influential figure to many of the local lads as he introduced them to Gaelic Games in his many coaching roles. Not only is Joe a massive stalwart for Clonoe but he has been a father figure to many throughout the local community who will also feel the loss of this true gentleman. We pass on our sincere sympathy to his wife Betty, son Sean and daughters Marie and Jacqueline, daughter in law Dolores, son in law Martin and to his grandchildren Shane, Conor, Clara, Beth, Cathal, Sean Og and Ruairi and his brother Frank. Joe's funeral will be on Wednesday at 11am in St Patrick's Clonoe. All Clonoe members are asked to dress in club colours for the guard of honour. As a mark of respect all club activities are cancelled until after the funeral. May he rest in peace.
