Urney St. Columba's - Club Notes

April 16, 2019

ADULT (Daoine Fásta):

Result - Urney 1-09 Cookstown 1-06

Urney played their first home game of the season and the boys showed some great battling spirit to come from behind and record their 1st win of the year. Cookstown started brighter and soon found themselves 1-1 to no score in front, but Urney kept plugging away and despite missing a few goal chances went in at halftime 2 points down. This was despite being reduced to 14 men in the first half after an innocuous challenge was deemed a red card by the referee. Urney came out in the 2nd half and fought for every ball and wouldn't lie down. Their efforts were rewarded when Johnny Lafferty scored a goal after the goalkeeper saved his initial penalty. Urney then dug deep and seen out the game and moves the boys on to 2 points. Huge congratulations to the boys and management.

The reserves were beat on their first outing of the year. It was great to see some of the young lads out and it is really important that they all keep at it, as they play a very important role for our club and can use this as a stepping stone to 1st team football. Keep it up lads

Thanks again to Cathal McGowan from Clippers Barbershop for sponsoring the match ball.
