Darragh Canavan in action for St Ciaran's, Ballygawley

Darragh Canavan's call-up to the Tyrone senior football panel isn't a surprise to his Errigal Ciaran club-mate Peter Harte.

Teenage sensation Canavan, whose famous father Peter lifted the Sam Maguire Cup in 2003, has been called up for the Red Hands' Dr McKenna Cup campaign, despite having yet to make his first championship start for his club.

"I'm not really surprised to be honest," county star Harte said in the Irish News.

"Himself and another young lad Matthew Murnaghan (from Killyclogher) are both 18 like, we saw them playing against each other actually in a county minor final this year and the two of them stood out. They're two great lads and two great players so, when you have the potential that those two boys have, they're great to have on the panel."

Canavan's inclusion will see Mickey Harte manage a father-and-son for the first time as Tyrone boss.,
