It was tense tonight at O’Moore Park, where Laois edged out neighbours Carlow by 0-15 to 0-14 to retain their Division One status for another year.

With twelve points to his name, Ross King was the match-winner, while Marty Kavanagh found the target eleven times for the Barrowsiders and saw a late free tail left and wide with a share of the spoils beckoning.

Conditions were dreadful and the pitch – hosting its fourth match in seven days - was in poor condition as rare points from play from King and Willie Dunphy helped the O’Moore County lead by 0-7 to 0-5 with a minute left before the break.

Wind at their backs, they closed the half strongly with points from King (2) and Aaron Dunphy to lead by double scores at the short whistle.

Half-time substitute Chris Nolan started the second-half revival and fellow replacement John Nolan equalised in the 69th minute but King popped up with the winning score on the stroke of full time.
