Farrell: Micheal was very successful

Three-time All-Ireland winning Galway manager Cyril Farrell has led the tributes to the departing Micheal Donoghue.
Clarinbridge clubman Donoghue followed in Farrell’s footsteps when leading the county to All-Ireland glory in 2017 and, speaking on RTE Radio 1’s Morning Ireland, the RTE pundit stated: “Micheal was very successful.
“They [Galway management] brought an All-Ireland which hadn't been there for years, a League title, a Leinster title.
“This year ended early, but it is a surprise. Everybody thought he would continue on no problem.
“I would think time is the big thing. He has a young family and is a very busy man in his business. There was no pressure for him to go from the hurling board.”
Meanwhile, Galway chairman Pat Kearney revealed to RTE Sport this morning that they hope to have Donoghue’s successor in place by October 1.
The names of All-Ireland winning minor managers Brian Hanley and Jeffrey Lynskey are expected to feature prominently in speculation surrounding the vacancy.
