John Meyler admitted that his Cork side didn't deserve to reach the Munster SHC final after suffering their second defeat of the round-robin series to Clare.

The 2-18 to 3-23 loss in Ennis ended the Rebels' hopes of competing for a third provincial title in-a-row in two weeks' time, but all is not lost as they now have an All-Ireland SHC preliminary round quarter-final against either Laois or Westmeath to look forward to next month.

"We're third in Munster. We've achieved our primary objective in that we're in a preliminary All-Ireland quarter-final," the Cork manager said.

"I'm disappointed that we're not playing Tipperary or Limerick in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in a Munster final. I'd love if we were playing that.

"But look, after that performance today we need to go away for two or three weeks and really assess our performance, and we need to move on."

He added: "Credit to Clare, they did really well. But we have a lot of work to do after that. That game is over now. We're in the preliminary quarter-final against the losers of the Joe McDonagh Cup so that's our next objective."
