Meyler refusing to underestimate Banner

Cork boss John Meyler during his side's Munster SHC round 2 win over Limerick

Cork manager John Meyler is fearful of a Clare backlash in Sunday's final round of the Munster SHC round-robin series at Cusack Park.

Victory in Ennis would guarantee Cork's progress to the All-Ireland series and, depending on other results, could earn them a Munster SHC final place for the third year in-a-row. But despite having suffered double-digit defeats to Tipperary and Limerick in their last two games, Clare also remain in contention for a place in the All-Ireland series and have everything to play for in Meyler's eyes.

“It’s simple really, Clare might have lost their last two games but they are still in contention in this Munster championship and that gives them every incentive playing us," he told the Evening Echo.

“We knew ourselves at the start of the campaign that it would go down to the last game and that’s the way it is, four counties going for the three places in Munster.’’

The Wexford native added: "While some of the games in Munster this year have been one-sided, you still get nothing easy and it remains a very competitive championship. That’s proven by the fact that nothing really has been sorted yet going into the final weekend and we must be wary of a Clare backlash on Sunday playing in front of their own supporters.’’
