Offaly manager Kevin Martin admits that his side need to be fitter to compete at NHL 1B level.

Martin is concerned by the fitness levels of the players after they lost their second consecutive league outing last Sunday.

The former All-Ireland winner states in the Midland Tribune that they are addressing the situation, but added it will take time to rectify.

“If you’re fitness levels aren’t there, your head goes and your hurling goes. That’s something that we’re addressing at the minute, we just have to keep at it,” said Martin.

“It is what it is. Some players only came back into the fold in January, we have Ben Conneely to come back from injury, he’ll be back in full contact next weekend. David O’Toole Greene has a knee injury, hoping to have him back next week,” said Martin.

“Conor Mahon in a couple of weeks’ time, Shane Dooley is injured there as well. Joe Bergin, Shane Kinsella. We need to get those boys back sound, we need to get our fitness levels up and it’ll come together.”
