Gary Walsh has been left out of the Laois football panel for the coming season.

Manager John Surgue told Laois Today that the Ballylinan forward had struggled "to adjust to a change in style and different tactics", and has been cut from the panel as a result.

Walsh was the leading scorer in this year's Allianz League before he was dropped from the Laois team on the eve of last spring's Division 4 final against Carlow for his controversial tweet about the Belfast rape trial involving former Ireland out-half Paddy Jackson.

Laois GAA distanced themselves from the tweet, but Walsh returned to the side for the Leinster SFC opener against Wexford before losing his starting place for the rest of the summer.

Walsh played in last week's heavy O'Byrne Cup defeat to Meath, as did Darren Strong, who subsequently announced his inter-county retirement.
