Devane left bewildered

Clonoulty-Rossmore manager John Devane admits that it will take some time to get over their defeat to Limerick side Na Piarsaigh in last Sunday’s Munster club SHC semi-final.

The Tipperary champions were totally outclassed by Na Piarsaigh and never reached the levels of performance expected from their manager and supporters.

Devane was at a loss to explain to the Tipperary Star as to why the performance was so flat on the day.

“We didn’t come down to represent Tipperary and get that clipping,” said Devane. “The lads kept trying in the second half and maybe we were going for goals when we should have been taking our points.

“We came to put in an effort in and we did that, but we were well off the mark. They are an awesome team all over; physically as well as the economy with which they use the ball. They don’t waste anything and that’s the level that every team has to try and aim for.

He added: “When the rawness of this goes away we will sit down and maybe be more fulfilled with what we did two weeks ago in winning the county final. We never got to the levels of the Tipp championship, unfortunately.”
