Wexford SHC final: McDonald on the double as Naomh Eanna make the breakthrough

October 21, 2018

Naomh Eanna's Conor McDonald

Wexford have new senior hurling champions after Naomh Eanna dethroned St Martin’s at Innovate Wexford Park today.

Goals in either half from county star Conor McDonald laid the foundations for the Gorey side’s fully deserved 2-11 to 0-13 victory.

The first-time winners received a boost last night when Cathal Dunbar successfully appealed his semi-final sending-off to the DRA.

The Model County forward subsequently contributed four points to his side’s winning tally.

He also set up McDonald for the first goal and that score separated the sides at the half-time whistle – 1-7 to 0-7.

An attendance of 6,980 witnessed the 2015 Intermediate winners go on to create history after the resumption.

Full-forward McDonald’s second goal five minutes from time gave them a five-point cushion and they secured a deserved success.
