10,000 sign petition to save GAA grounds

A brand-new stadium along the motorway with a capacity of 40,000 would serve all counties in the province.
Over ten thousand signatures have been submitted to an online petition set up to save the Pairc na hEireann grounds in Birmingham.
The county grounds of Warwickshire GAA is under threat from developers Highway England who plan to build a relief road through the grounds.
Last year, Highways England announced plans to build a relief road to run through one of the three pitches at the home of GAA in the West Midlands, Páirc na hÉireann in Solihull.
A new site nearby for a state-of-the-art facility for Warwickshire GAA, complete with clubhouse and three pitches, was offered by Highways England in return.
Highways England then took that offer off the table and under new plans Warwickshire GAA will remain at Páirc na hÉireann, but their grounds will be decimated.
The petition was organised by the Sean McDermotts’ club and received massive support and once something of this nature gathers over 10,000 signatures in Britain, it is entitled to an official response from the government.
