Mickey Graham's name will go before Monday night's meeting of the Cavan County Board for ratification as their new senior football manager.

The 1997 Ulster SFC winner has received the nod to replace Mattie McGleenan ahead of Ramor United manager Micheál McDermott and Armagh's Aidan O'Rourke.

A two-time Longford SFC winner with Mullinalaghta St Columba's, Graham has managed the Cavan minors in the past and has also enjoyed success at club level in his native county with Butlersbridge (JFC) and Drumalee (IFC).

The Breffni County's management committee gave his appointment the thumbs up last night and Monday night's ratification process should be a formality.

Graham's former Breffni County team-mate, 1997 All-Star Dermot McCabe - who is employed as the county's Games Development Manager - is believed to be part of his backroom team.

Cavan will be aiming to consolidate their place in Division One under Graham in 2019 having secured an instant return to the top flight last Spring.

The Blues saw their 2018 Ulster championship hopes dashed at the first hurdle when they fell to an eight-point defeat against Donegal in Ballybofey.

The Dara McVeety-captained outfit bounced back with All-Ireland qualifier victories over Wicklow and Down before Tyrone ended their campaign in June.
