Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald has revealed that the players want him to stay on in the position.

The Model County's year came to an end last weekend when Clare defeated them in the All-Ireland SHC quarterfinal and as is customary when a county's season draws to a close, talk on the manager's future begins.

Fitzgerald has admitted that he will take some time out before deciding on his future adding that the commute from his home in Clare to Wexford was taking its toll.

However, he did reveal to the Wexford People that the players have made their feelings known and that is for him to stay on in the role.

"Look, on my own future, the players have asked me to stay on. It's a long journey, a huge commitment, a six to seven hour round trip. It has not been easy but I will be taking everything on board," said Fitzgerald.

"We have made lots of progress, but I'm not in a position to give an answer on my future. The players want me to stay but the answer is for another day."
