Ruairi Harkin went beyond the call of duty by lining out for the Longford U20s yesterday, just two days after the death of his grandfather Michael.

The brave Colmcille youngster came off the bench to score a late goal at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, but it wasn't enough to save Longford from defeat to neighbours Westmeath as they made their exit from the inaugural Leinster U20FC.

No doubt his grandfather, who will be laid to rest in Granard later today, would have been proud of him.
