Laois manager Eamonn Kelly admits that it is difficult to explain why the side have struggled to find their form in the Joe McDonagh Cup so far this year.

Two losses from two games leaves Laois joint-bottom alongside Meath in the group and there chances of qualification for the final have taken a massive setback.

Westmeath and Kerry have taken points off Kelly's charges so far and he stressed to the Leinster Express that training has been going well, but the performances have failed to reflect that.

"It's very difficult to put your finger on it where it's going wrong, but it is, what it is," stated Kelly. He added: "We just seemed to be tied up in our hurling. We're training hard. As long as I've been involved in hurling I just can't figure out why it doesn't transfer from the training field to the match day.

"We'll just have to keep honest in what we are trying to do. We have a quick turnaround, we go to Antrim on Friday evening to play on Saturday."
