Mayo manager Derek Walsh believes that they still are in the same situation as they were before last weekend's Christy Ring Cup opening round defeat to Wicklow.

Walsh saw his side lose out to the Garden County after they only hit 1-03 from play in a 1-20 to 2-11 defeat at Aughrim on Saturday last.

However, he explained to the Western People that they are still in the same situation as they were; needing two wins to reach the knockout stages of the championship.

"We have to win two games to get to a semi-final. That hasn't changed. We still have to win two games to get to a semi-final," said Walsh. 

"Look, there's a bit more pressure on us alright next week to win, but we still have two games to win to get to a semi-final, and we'll be in the same spot as Wicklow if we win the two of them."

The Mayo manager is hoping that they can make home advantage count for next weekend's tough clash against a Kildare side that saw off the challenge of Roscommon in the opening round.

"Well sure, it is definitely a help. I'm looking forward to it next week in Ballina. It will definitely be a big advantage to play at home. It was a long journey for us to come to Wicklow, but look that's not what swung the game against us."
