Belief was always there for Shanahan

Having lost their opening three NHL matches, the Waterford management team could have been forgiven for pressing the panic button, but that was never the case according to selector Dan Shanahan.

The Deise broke their duck with a win over Cork last time out as they finally picked up some points in an intriguing campaign that has seen all counties drop points so far.

Shanahan was not overly concerned by Waterford's start to the NHL 1A campaign as he stressed to the Waterford News & Star that the management team has full belief in the squad.

"When you know what you are dealing with below in the field and with the calibre of player that we have, we don't become a bad team overnight. We were in an All-Ireland final last year, we've been in Munster finals, All-Ireland semi-finals and league finals over the last three or four years," pointed out Shanahan.

"We, as a management team, believed in our players. They went out last Sunday week and performed. We got the result. That shows the maturity of the boys."
