Waterford forward Pauric Mahony has revealed that he will reserve judgement on the new Munster SHC format until the campaign begins.

This year sees a round robin series of games played in the Munster SHC as Waterford, Cork, Tipperary, Limerick and Clare battle it out for a place in the All-Ireland SHC quarterfinals and the Munster crown.

Most have welcomed the new format, but Mahony is reserving judgement for a later date, but his initial impression is that there are a lot of games in a short time frame.

"It's hard to know because it is new to everyone. Your whole season is decided in 21 days really," Mahony told the Waterford News & Star.

"We've a bye in the first round so we've four games in three weeks you could say. The strength in depth in the panel is crucial. A few more lads got game time again the last day and that's the key because it is going to be a tough period."
