Clare captain Patrick O'Connor is intransigent that safety is their first priority in the NHL, despite them winning their opening two games.

Talk of league titles have been firmly banished from the Clare dressingroom, and O'Connor states they need another win to ensure their safety for another year.

This weekend, they take on Cork and another win will not only ease the threat of relegation but it will see them in the shake up for the latter end of the campaign.

"Our sole concern is to get another two points, which would guarantee us safety in the division. Then we can look ahead to the championship," O'Connor told the Clare Champion.

"The league is a carbon copy of what the championship will be and training will probably be switched around a bit to work out the best play, to allow for recovery between games," said O'Connor.

"I am looking forward to the new schedule. I would love to be able to look back and say we were available for all games."
