Galway SHC draw: last two winners in same group

The 2017 and 2016 champions have been drawn in the same group in this year's Galway SHC.

City side Liam Mellows, who won their first county title since 1970 last December and will face Cuala in the All-Ireland club SHC semi-final this afternoon, have been drawn in Group 1 alongside 2016 winners St Thomas', Kilnadeema/Leitrim, Craughwell, Castlegar and Tommy Larkins.

Group 2 consists of Mullagh, Loughrea, Cappataggle, last year's runners-up Gort, Portumna and Sarsfields.

The SHC 'B' will also be split into two groups with Turloughmore, Ballindereen, Clarinbridge, Killimordaly, Ahascragh / Fonenagh and Beagh in Group 1 and Ardrahan, Padraig Pearses, Athenry, Tynagh / Abbey / Duniry, Abbeyknockmoy and Moycullen in Group 2.

The draw for the 2018 Galway IHC was also made in Oranmore's Maldron Hotel last night.
