Westmeath hurling boss Michael Ryan will be without the services of Aonghus Clarke for their upcoming Allianz Hurling League campaign.

Last year's captain has been out of the country since scoring 12 points for Castletown-Geoghegan in their county SHC final victory over Raharney last October, and isn't due to return until just before the start of the Leinster SHC round-robin series, which the Lake County will once again be involved in this year.

"Aonghus went travelling shortly after the county final and isn't due back for another couple of months. He won't be available for the league, but will be back for the championship. He's a brilliant hurler who would make any team in the country in my opinion," Ryan told the 2018 Westmeath GAA Yearbook, which will be published soon.
