Robbie O'Flynn scored the only goal as UCC opened their Fitzgibbon Cup campaign with a comfortable victory over Cork IT tonight.

Tom Kingston's side were full value for their 10-point victory in the chilly conditions at CIT, dominating the second-half with a five-star performance which saw them outscoring the home side by 1-8 to 0-4 over the half hour.

Michael Breen had the visitors' account opened inside the opening minute of this contest before Michael Kearney levelled with an accurate free which sailed perfectly between UCC's posts.

Cork star Shane Kingston put UCC back in the ascendency and they were two to the good come the 14th minute thanks to a pair of accurate frees from John Power.

Patrick Collins lashed over a long range free soon afterwards and the hosts would be level once Jerry O'Neill cut through to raise a white flag off the back of a slick team move.

A Kearney free handed CIT their first lead in the 25th minute but it was their counterparts that would finish out the half strong with points from Shane Forde, Kingston and Breen to take in a 0-11 to 0-8 lead at the break.

Collins and Kearney (frees) narrowed the gap down to one for Frank Flannery's charges within two minutes of the restart, but Rickard Cahalane soon had the 38-time champions up and running again and they'd stretch their lead to 0-15 to 0-11 come the 45-minute mark.

CIT couldn't come up with accurate responses and Kingston made it a five-point game with eight minutes of regulation remaining before Mark Coleman landed two more placed balls and O'Flynn sealed the deal when he kept his cool in the 56th minute.
