Darren McCurry is hoping to establish himself as a regular in the Tyrone attack this season.

The Edendork forward scored three points after coming off the bench in Saturday night's McKenna Cup final victory over Monaghan and feels he's ready to stake a starting place in Mickey Harte's side.

"I would like to push on, I feel like I'm in the best condition I've ever been," he explained to the Irish News.

"I feel I got a lot of game-time last year - I didn't started the (All-Ireland) semi-final last year, but I came on. I want to nail down my place and push on from there."

McCurry says competition for places remains intense, despite the absence of injured captain Mattie Donnelly and Cathal McShane's imminent departure to the AFL.

"I've been in here nearly nine years or so and the squad is so, so strong, with the young boys coming in," he continued.

"There's Conn Kilpatrick from my own club, Daniel Kerr from Galbally, a couple of others and that's what you need, everyone needs to go onto the pitch knowing that if they don't produce the goods there's somebody that'll come on and do the job."
