A five-minute phone call brought an end to Ciaran Deely’s term as London senior football manager.

For the past four years, the Wexford native has been in charge of the Exiles and previous to that he coached the side during Paul Coggins’ reign.

However, his time in charge was brought to an end when he received a phone call from a member of the London GAA executive committee informing him that his services were no longer required.

The Wexford native is less than impressed with how he was relieved of his duties, especially after their performance against Galway when they pushed the Tribesmen all the way.

“I would have expected more than a phone call from the county secretary during my working day to let me know they no longer wanted me as manager,” Deely told the Irish Post.

“It’s disappointing not to be treated with a little more respect after putting my heart and soul into the last five years for London GAA.

“After a really challenging period where the number of players coming over from Ireland has dried up, we managed to introduce many London-born players and backroom staff into the set up and got to a stage where we were competing in every single game that we played this season and had one of the best defensive records in the country.”

He added: “I wouldn’t have thought I’d be here saying this now after coming off the pitch against Galway. But I enjoyed the journey, as I always do. I am only sorry for the fans that we could not win more games. In the end, I have to take ultimate responsibility for that.”
