Tipperary manager Liam Kearns says that following the shock defeat to Limerick in the Munster SFC; thoughts of stepping down entered his head.

The Kerry native held on until after the defeat to Down in the qualifiers to announce that he would be stepping down after four years in charge.

It has been a frustrating year for the Tipperary footballers as they have had to deal with mounting injuries throughout the campaign.

And Kearns told the Tipperary Star that it would have needed a good run in the qualifiers for him to have changed his mind on his decision to step down.

“I felt we had to win two or three rounds of the qualifiers to justify staying on,” stressed Kearns.

“I couldn’t stand over the Limerick performance, to be honest. The buck stops with the manager. In fairness, we never got the team right this year and that caught up with us, big time.”
