'Players suffered from a virus which led to diarrhoea'

Wicklow manager Johnny Evans has revealed that their preparations for last weekend’s All-Ireland SFC qualifier was hampered by a virus in the camp.
A number of the players couldn’t train in the lead up to the game which ended in a narrow defeat to Leitrim at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada last Saturday, due to the virus.
And Evans told the Wicklow People that the players affected were unable to participate in the build up to the game.
“About five days before the game a number of players suffered from a virus which led to diarrhoea. It impacted their final days of preparations which was something we could have done without,” said the Kerry native.
“I don’t know how much it affected the players at the start but there’s no doubt it could have affected their energy levels late on.
“Any such virus can take a lot out of you in normal life so you can imagine how it would affect players having to face 70 minutes of intense championship football.”
