Former Kerry captain Fionn Fitzgerald is not dwelling on his exclusion from the county squad this year.

Fitzgerald was one of a number of players who wasn’t called into the squad for the 2019 campaign. It came as somewhat of a surprise that the Dr Crokes captain was not included.

While, there was much made of his departure in the media, Fitzgerald told the Kerryman that he had more on his mind than football during that time.

“My status is, Kerry is done for me really,” said Fitzgerald. “I’m very happy with Crokes. I’m not back with Kerry next year. I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be different next year. It’ll be different this summer, it’ll be different these couple of months.

“I got married in December and I was on honeymoon. For the last two months, between that and getting back into work in Crokes, I’ve had plenty to get my teeth stuck into. That’s basically the situation.

“I was indirectly linked to it. I had nothing to do with it. I don’t really have an opinion on it and that’s not flunking the question or anything. To be honest, like I said, I had a wedding. I was indirectly linked with it, I had nothing to do with it.”

Fitzgerald is focusing on tomorrow's All-Ireland club SFC semi-final as Dr Crokes prepare to take on Longford and Leinster club champions Mullinalaghta at Semple Stadium.
