Italian soccer club AS Roma have announced that they will donate €150,000 to the family of Sean Cox.
The Meath man, a former chairman of Dunboyne GAA, suffered a serious brain injury after being attacked by Roma fans before Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final tie outside Anfield last April.
The 53-year-old father of three still remains in a serious condition as a result of his injuries.
This evening AS Roma tweeted that the club would be donating €100,000 through it's ‘Roma Cares’ foundation, while its president Jim Pallotta is set to make a personal donation of €50,000.
"What happened to Sean Cox should never happen to anyone attending a football match,” Mr Pallotta said.
"Our thoughts today, as they have been from day one, are with Sean, Martina and their whole family. We all hope Sean makes as full a recovery as possible."
Meanwhile, tickets for the Sean Cox Benefit Fundraiser have gone on sale at gaa.tickets.ie and will see Meath taking on All-Ireland champions Dublin at Pairc Tailteann, Navan on December 16th.
