Kerry county board chairman Tim Murphy says he’s confident that new football manager Peter Keane will return the Kingdom to All-Ireland glory “in the not too distant future”.

Keane and his backroom team were officially ratified on a three-year term last night and, speaking to RTE Sport, Murphy gave his full backing to the St Mary’s clubman and his team of Donie Buckley, Maurice Fitzgerald, Tommy Griffin and James Foley.

"We have a first class team that'll bring the Sam Maguire back to Kerry in the not too distant future," he said.

"We had a selection committee in place which was charged with finding a replacement to Eamonn Fitzmaurice. Peter brings a new level of freshness.

"He won three minor All-Irelands. He has the ability to assemble a really good team around him and has proven that in the past which is evidenced in the management team he has assembled around himself. We're delighted and we wish Peter and his management team all the very best."
