Michael Lyster transports "The Sunday Game" to his home parish of Killererin.

Tomorrow, Friday 20th April as part of the official opening celebrations of Killererin GAA's new clubhouse a GAA celebrity panel will preview the eagerly anticipated Galway versus Mayo first round Connaught Championship match (scheduled for May 13th). The format will be similar to that used on RTE's "The Sunday Game".

The event will be an exhilarating occasion with panellists of national recognition participating. Willie Joe Padden and John Maughan of Mayo and Darragh O'Shea of Kerry as well as Killererin's Padraig Joyce will participate Killererin native, Michael Lyster, will chair the panel. Killererin is the club of Billy Joyce, Alan Keane, Tommy Wilson, Padraic Joyce and Tommy Joyce. All played significant roles at county level in securing Galway success over the years.

The arrival of Gaelic Football to the small north Galway parish was proclaimed on Friday December 13th 1889 when a notice in the "TUAM NEWS" declared "A football Club in connection with the G.A.A. has been formed and affiliated at Killererin". The club was initially called The John Dillon's after John Dillon son of John Blake Dillon, who was one of the founders of the Young Ireland Movement and "THE NATION" Newspaper. John Dillon himself was the Irish Parliamentary Party M.P. for East Mayo and a member of the Irish Party in the House of Commons and a great supporter of Charles Stuart Parnell.

The north Galway parish has experienced many challenges, triumphs, losses and victories over the last 129 years. 2018 also marks the 50th Anniversary of Killererin entering the senior ranks of Galway Club Football. The club has managed to maintain its senior status, albeit on occasion with some close shaves, for the last 50 years. The club has contributed significantly to the football life of both county and country and has punched well above its weight.

A weekend of celebrations is planned with an Eventus marquee erected especially for the occasion. Entertainment will include Streetwise Friday night, a performance on Saturday 21st by Robert Mizzell supported by Stuart Moyles. On Sunday April 22nd at 12.30 p.m. the new clubhouse will be officially opened by Gerry McGovern - newly elected Connaught Council President. Following the official opening the Galway Senior Team will play a challenge match.
