St. Vincent's Cormac Diamond gets on the ball ahead of Skerries Harps' Gerry Daly

St Vincent's got their Dublin senior football championship defence off to an impressive start this evening by dishing out a 5-18 to 1-9 defeat to Skerries Harps.

The holders showed no signs of missing star forward Diarmuid Connolly at Parnell Park, where Tomás Quinn fired in two goals in the opening quarter of an hour for the would-be winners.

Cormac Diamond and Shane Carthy raised further green flags to send the Marino club in with an unassailable 4-11 to 0-7 lead at the break.

Harry Dawson smashed home a penalty for the Harps two minutes into the restart to take some tarnish off the score-line, but Diamond's second goal and late points from Gavin Burke and Carthy left the victors with 21 points to spare in the end and a marker firmly laid after Round 1.

The second part of this evening's Donnycarney double-header proved to be a lot closer as Na Fianna needed a strong finish to beat Lucan Sarsfields, 3-9 to 1-10, having trailed by 1-4 to 0-6 at half-time.

Conor McHugh, Darragh Kennedy and Sean Caffrey all found the net for the Mobhi Road outfit after the break.
