Dublin midfielder James McCarthy expects Bernard Brogan to bounce back from injury and line-out during the All-Ireland champions' Sam Maguire Cup defence this summer.

Brogan has been sidelined by a cruciate ligament injury he sustained in training last month and his brother Alan confirmed today that the five-time All-Ireland winner is targeting a return to the sky blue jersey in August.

McCarthy has no doubt that the St Oliver Plunketts superstar can return on schedule should the Dubs be back in the business end of the championship again late in the summer.

"Knowing the type of guy he is and how determined he is and how strong-willed he is, he'll do everything he can rehab-wise to try and get back playing football as soon as he can," he told RTE Sport.

"He's with the medics and the physios now and he has a hard road ahead to try and get the work done.

"We just wish him all the best and hope he makes a speedy recovery from what is a serious injury."
