Rossies midfield headache to ease

The return of key midfielders is a huge boost to Roscommon.

Those are the thoughts of manager Kevin McStay who has tried a number of combinations in the centre of the park during the NFL 2 campaign so far.

However, McStay is keen to see a settled pairing in such vital positions and the return of experienced players in that area will be a welcome relief to the management team.

"Cathal Compton is a natural midfielder as is Tadgh O'Rourke. Enda (Smith) and Ian (Kilbride) aren't particularly natural midfielders," McStay told the Roscommon Herald.

"Yet, they've done brilliantly for us. They're sacrificing their natural game. Everyone knows that midfield is a challenge for us at the moment. But we'll get Tadgh O'Rourke back to full fitness because he has a brilliant attitude.

"Hopefully Cathal can maintain his progress. Hopefully Ultan (Harney) will start creeping through - maybe next weekend. I'm not sure, so then the team begins to look sizeable because they are all big men."
