Waterford manager Derek McGrath admits that it may have been a mistake to bring Austin Gleeson back into the side after injury.

Gleeson had to come off at half time during the defeat to Kilkenny last Sunday afternoon and has only returned to the side following a quad injury sustained just two weeks ago.

And McGrath revealed to the Waterford News & Star that they probably rushed the Mount Sion clubman back too soon for the game last weekend.

"He's suffering a little bit from two weeks ago. Maybe, we were unfair to ask him to play the game. Three years ago, we pushed him to play the promotion match down in Wexford and similarly we did a fitness test on Friday night and we felt he was ok," said McGrath.

"In retrospect, it was probably unfair on him to ask him to go out with the pitch conditions like this. Hindsight is a great thing but we will learn from this."
