Damian McErlain has given youth its fling as he prepares for his first competitive game as Derry senior football boss.

Six of the Oak Leaf starting 15 for tonight's McKenna Cup opener against UUJ at Owenbeg (throw-in 8pm) is made up of minors from the past two seasons - namely Ben McKinless, Conor McCluskey, Padraig McGrogan, Conor Doherty, Patrick Coney and Callum Brown.

Full-back Kevin Johnston and attacking duo Ciaran McFaul and Enda Lynn provide plenty of experience with former captain Mark Lynch on the bench after recommitting to the county squad for a 15th season.

Derry (McKenna Cup v UUJ): Ben McKinless; Conor McCluskey, Kevin Johnston, Ruairi Mooney; Padraig McGrogan, Michael McEvoy, Jordan Curran; Jack Doherty, Patrick Kearney; Conor Doherty, Ciaran McFaul, Patrick Coney; Enda Lynn, Callum Brown, Peter Hagan.

Subs: Oran Hartin, Liam McGoldrick, Conor McAtamney, Mark Lynch, Seán McKeever, Niall Toner, James Kielt.
