In an otherwise poor day for Tipperary, their manager Liam Sheedy was delighted to see experienced midfielder Brendan Maher return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Maher has been out of action since last June when he damaged his cruciate ligament during the Munster SHC clash against Clare.

However, he has battled back to full fitness and made his return in the NHL quarterfinal defeat to Dublin at Semple Stadium.

The Borris-Ileigh clubman was introduced as a 47th minute substitute for Robert Byrne at wing back and Sheedy spoke of his delight to see him return.

“It is great to see Brendan getting on the pitch,” Sheedy told the Midland Tribune. “He had a long road to recovery. He has been hugely disciplined in terms of his approach.

“I’m delighted for him. His return is good for the squad. He stood over a free late on and put it over the bar and he has a few weeks ahead of him where he can knuckle down and we have to knuckle down and get ready for the championship.”
