Hope for Offaly hurling

September 01, 2019

Legendary Offaly and Rhode footballer Paddy McCormack, better known as the 'Iron Man from Rhode'.

While Offaly hurling is at an all-time low at senior level, there's hope for the future thanks to the success of the county's U14 team at the prestigious Tony Forristal tournament in Waterford.

The Faithful U14s defeated Limerick and Waterford to reach the Division 1 final, only to lose to Tipperary by 1-6 to 3-11. Offaly were relegated to the Christy Ring Cup during the summer, but there is clearly a lot of work being done at underage level and if the performances of their talented U14 team is anything to go by, they won't be down for too long.

Tipp also won the Sonny Walsh Cup Division 2 title at Galway's expense to complete a fantastic year for the Premier's inter-county hurling teams.
