Sunday’s hurling fixtures see silverware and a final place up for grabs in Munster and Leinster and here we preview the three games taking place across the two provinces.

 

Sunday, January 13th

Munster SHL final

Clare v Tipperary, Gaelic Grounds, 2pm

Clare needed a late goal from Colin Guilfoyle last time out to hold off a resurgent Waterford in Dungarvan and will be looking to make a similar strong start when they battle it out with Tipperary this Sunday.

The Premier men have made a flying start under Liam Sheedy since his return, scoring convincing wins over Limerick (4-14 to 2-17) and Kerry (4-20 to 1-14), and some silverware for the former All-Ireland winning manager would be the perfect way to start off 2019.

Tipp should be able to ride their early momentum and shade this one.

Verdict: Tipperary

Walsh Cup semi-finals

Wexford v Kilkenny, Bellefield, Enniscorthy, 2pm

These two enter the fray for 2019 with a Walsh Cup final place at stake and that could well serve up an appetising encounter at Bellefield on Sunday.

Kilkenny start the year with a handful of injuries to the likes of last year’s captain Cillian Buckley (knee), along with fellow defender Padraig Walsh (knee) and attacker Bill Sheehan (wrist), which is set to open up opportunities for others in Brian Cody’s squad.

Wexford are also nursing injuries, with Davy Fitzgerald confirming that Mark Fanning, Rory O’Connor, Damien Reck, Paul Morris and Lee Chin will play no part in this weekend’s clash with the Cats.

Verdict: Kilkenny

Dublin v Galway, Parnell Park, 2pm

Galway visit the capital this weekend in what will be their first competitive outing since last August’s loss to Limerick on All-Ireland final day.

In their way stands Mattie Kenny’s Dublin side whom have scored three wins from three so far in the Walsh Cup, which has them as just 6/4 underdogs for the Tribesmen’s visit.

With Kenny also plotting against his native county, this one should be interesting come 2pm this Sunday.

Verdict: Galway
