Tragedy strikes Tipperary GAA club

Tributes have been paid to a GAA stalwart who died in a weekend car crash.

Tom Gleeson, who was a prominent member of the Moycarkey-Borris GAA club in Co. Tipperary, lost his life in a single vehicle collision near Cashel in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Aged 51, Tom represented his club at all levels and later immersed himself in coaching.

A post on the Moycarkey-Borris Supporters' Club Facebook page read: "On last Saturday morning our club community was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Thomas Gleeson in a car accident.

"Tom was a lifelong stalwart of Moycarkey Borris GAA, always involved, always willing to help in every way possible. He played at every level underage, Minor, Under 21 and the Adult teams. Tom excelled as a Selector and team mentor after his days in the jersey elapsed. He was kind and encouraging to players as he passed on his passion for the club.

"He was a selector with several Championship winning teams in the club including the 2013 County Junior A Hurling winning team. He will be sadly missed on match days, training and all club activities. Our sincere sympathies to his wife Nuala, daughters Aideen and Brid, granddaughters Mia and Layla ,sisters ,relatives and friends.
