Niall Carew's future as Sligo manager is still unclear as he is yet to meet the county board executive.

Carew is waiting to hear from the county board even though the senior footballers' campaign was ended by Meath last month.

The Kildare native has completed three years at the helm and it is believed that he wants to remain in the position and the players are keen for him to stay.

Speaking to the Sligo Champion, Carew stated that the ball was now in the county board's court. "There isn't really much to report. I haven't officially met with the county board, there was a county board meeting on Monday night.

"It was absolutely important to speak to the players to see if they are on board and the general consensus from them is that they are happy to go forward. It was important to get an indication from them, but it's the county board's decision.

"I've to finish the conversation with my family and I'm waiting for the county board to get back to me, so I don't know what the story is. I have to meet with the county board, sit down with them and see if we are on the same wavelength."
