The death occurred on 20th August last of Mary Jo Gallagher (nee Masterson) late of Ballintra, Donegal and originally from Tubbercurry.
In her mid 80s, Mary Jo was reared in Tubbercurry along with her brothers Eddie and Joe and sisters Monica, Kaye and Anne, all of whom made huge contributions to Tubbercurry and their adopted communities.
Mary Jo married Tommy Gallagher in the early 60s and became a proud Donegal as well as a proud Tubbercurry woman. All her sons played football and Paraic (RIP) and Matt won All Ireland under 21 medals for Donegal in the mid 1980s. Matt went on to be full back on the great 1992 Donegal team that won the senior All-Ireland.
Mary Jo was ill for the last number of years prior to her death, but prior to her illness she loved her trips home to Tubbercurry.
Her remains reposed at the family home in Ballintra and burial took place in Ballintra Cemetery. She is survived by her sons Matt, Declan and Dermot, sister Anne Gorman, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, in-laws and many old friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.
