Sad passing of Danny McHugh

Sligo GAA was deeply saddened to learn of the death in Letterkenny of Danny McHugh, one of Sligo's outstanding footballers of the 1960's.
Danny played Senior Football for Sligo from 1964 to 1969, giving many memorable performances. He was a very talented forward. He was also a member of the Sligo team that played Kildare in the 1968 National Football League semi-final replay at Croke Park, a game in which he scored 1 -1. In club football Danny played with his native Cliffoney, winning a North Divisional Junior Championship in 1963 narrowly losing the County Final to Bunninadden.
He also won two junior medals with Grange, in 1959 and 1969 He also played for the St. Joseph's Bundoran/Ballyshannon team, playing with Brian McEniff and many other notable Donegal footballers. He won a County Championship medal with the Donegal club.
Sligo GAA extends deepest sympathy to Danny's wife Josephine, sons Declan, Brendan and Conor, daughter Jacqueline, his mother Mary, sisters Goretti Horgan, Caroline Burns and Marie McKeon, brothers Jackie, Brendan, Liam and Micheal, grandchildren Maggie Kate, Sean Daniel, Kitty Rose and Danny.
