Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

August 12, 2019

Our women's intermediate footballers beat CT Gaels by 5-20 to 5-11 in their concluding round robin championship match last Sunday morning in Tubbercurry. Despite the 9am throw-in, the girls produced a fine performance. They are already through to the county championship final against St Michael’s on August 31st. Our congrats to Mike Healy and his team on reaching the final.

In the meantime, our county players are getting ready for Sligo’s All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary this Saturday afternoon in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny, at 3pm. We wish our club players Michelle McNamara, Sinead Regan, Rachel Quigley, Rachel Monaghan, Oda Carty and the Sligo team the very best of luck. The match is live on both TG4 and Ocean FM.

Our congrats to former club player Orla McGowan on her recent marriage to Ciaran Kelly.

There was disappointment for our senior men’s footballers in the championship last Saturday evening at Kent Park when they were beaten by Calry/St Joseph’s by 2-10 to 0-8. We play Coolaney/Mullinabreena in our next group game in two weeks time.

Benbulben Gaels under 16 hurlers lifted silverware last week. They beat Western Gaels in the under 16 league final by 6-10 to 5-4. Well done to the players and management on another fine hurling success.

The minor hurlers continue their championship campaign this Thursday evening with a home game against Tourlestrane at 7pm.

Our boys under 14 footballers returned to winning ways in the 'A' championship last Friday evening with a comprehensive 6-11 to 2-3 win against St Molaise Gaels in Oxfield. After three games, the teams are currently second in the championship table behind leaders St Mary's.

The under 14 girls footballers enjoyed two championship wins in recent days. They beat Eoghan Rua at home and St John's away on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-3. The team lie joint-second in the round-robin championship table.

Our boys under 12 footballers play St Mary’s this Wednesday evening at Oxfield in a cup semi-final at 7pm.

The club’s GAA nursery for girls and boys will resume after the summer break on Saturday, August 24th at Rathcormac NS at the usual times. Players born 2013, 2014 and early 2015 at 9:45am (till 10:30am). Players born 2009-2012 at 10:30am (till 11:30am). New players are always very welcome.
