Sligo manager Paul Taylor feels that fixing their All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Offaly for this Sunday was the right decision.

The Sligo hurlers play in the Nicky Rackard Cup final on Saturday afternoon and if the footballers were out on the same day, it would mean supporters would either have to choose which game to attend or if possible, race from one game to the other.

Some counties have to do just that as the likes of Armagh, Down and Leitrim are all playing in both codes this Saturday.

However, Taylor is pleased that supporters can follow both their teams as he prepares his charges for a clash against the Faithful County.

“We wish the hurlers the very best,” Taylor told the Sligo Champion. “It’s a big day for them and I have to say things have worked really well all year between ourselves and them and there has been no issues and the working relationship with Daithi Hand has been really good.

He added: “We had a great battle with Offaly in the league in Collooney and it was another game we felt we left behind, losing by a point in the end.

“Offaly as we have seen from their performances with Meath and London have very much improved, they are very fit and have some good players.

“Our own lads have learned a lot of experience over the last year and hopefully that will stand to them. Both teams will look to have a good chance and see it as winnable for them.”
