Sligo players celebrate with the 2018 Lory Meagher Cup

A close bond between the Sligo hurlers has played its part in them reaching the Nicky Rackard Cup final, according to their manager Daithi Hand.

Just a year ago, Sligo went to Croke Park and came away with the Lory Meagher Cup, now on Saturday week, they will go to GAA headquarters hoping to bring home the Nicky Rackard Cup.

It has been an astonishing achievement by the Yeats County who were pushed all the way by a highly fancied Warwickshire side in the semi final.

When speaking to the Sligo Champion, Hand was keen to pay tribute to his players and he stressed that there was a great bond in the group.

“We’re a very close-knit squad. We used our bench very effectively, we also use the bench as an inspiration because the lads knew there are lads sitting on the bench that really felt they should be on the field so they knew they had a responsibility to do it for them too,” said Hand.
