Check out our first football team of the week for 2019…

1. Ruairi Lavelle (Galway)

Lavelle kept a clean sheet as the Tribesmen came from behind to claim the Division 1 spoils at Cavan’s expense in Pearse Stadium.

2. Donal Keogan (Meath)

The Royals limited Tipperary to three points from play and Keogan was very much to the fore in their defensive effort.

3. Che Cullen (Fermanagh)

The Ernesiders played out a draw with visitors Cork and Cullen was prominent in defence as they held the Rebel County to 1-5.

4. Ryan Wylie (Monaghan)

Wylie was one of the star performers as the Farney County claimed the scalp of All-Ireland champions Dublin on home turf.

5. Eoin Doyle (Kildare)

Doyle was his usual reliable self as the Lilywhites’ bid for an instant return to the top flight got off to a draw with Armagh.

6. Daniel St Ledger (Carlow)

St Ledger and Carlow made an encouraging start to life in Division 3 with a seven-point success over Sligo.

7. Tom O’Sullivan (Kerry)

New manager Peter Keane is looking to make Kerry difficult to beat and defenders like O’Sullivan can make life difficult for any opposition forwards.

8. John O’Loughlin (Laois)

The O’Moore County came from behind to edge out hosts Down in Newry on Saturday evening and O’Loughlin helped to lay the foundations for their six-point victory.

9. Fintan Kelly (Monaghan)

Kelly walked away with the ‘man-of-the-match’ accolade following the Farney County’s morale boosting victory over the Dubs.

10. Robbie Smyth (Longford)

Smyth registered 1-3 as Longford made light of the absence of their Mullinalaghta contingent to defeat Louth by 1-8 to 0-9.

11. Sean O’Shea (Kerry)

A point from a sideline kick was the highlight of a fine individual display by the Kingdom’s centre-forward against the Red Hand County.

12. Jason Doherty (Mayo)

Doherty contributed 0-3 (2 frees) as Mayo scraped home against Connacht rivals Roscommon in rain-soaked Castlebar on Saturday evening.

13. Jamie Clarke (Armagh)

The Orchard County will be a force to be reckoned with in 2019 with Clarke – who raised three white flags against Kildare - back in the fold.

14. Stephen O’Hanlon (Monaghan)

The Carrickmacross youngster announced his arrival on the inter-county senior stage with a goal against Dublin following his 43rd minute introduction.

15. Ryan O’Rourke (Leitrim)

The talented Leitrim forward helped himself to 2-7 (2-3) from play as Terry Hyland's side enjoyed a comfortable Division 4 victory over Wexford.
