Former Sligo manager Niall Carew admits that he is enjoying his time with Carlow side Palatine who he is preparing for a county SFC final on Sunday.
Carew managed Sligo and Waterford footballers in the past as well as working with Kieran McGeeney during his time managing the Kildare senior footballers.
The Kildare native was heavily linked with the vacant Westmeath senior manager’s job before Jack Cooney was appointed to that role.
However, Carew has kept himself busy this year working with a Palatine side that are seeking their third county title in four years.
“I got a call from Nicky Parle,” Carew told the Carlow Nationalist about how he got the role in the first place.
“There were a couple of clubs who phoned and were interested. You know the merry go-round. The one that appealed to me was Palatine. They are very ambitious and quite literally they sold the club to me.
“They know what they are about. Anything I asked for in preparation of the team, it wasn’t a problem. I was looking to make sure we had a strength and conditioning coach with us the whole time.
“Louise Keane is very good and did a lot of work with me in Sligo. She set out the gym programmes and she is here for every pitch session.”
He added: “The biggest thing is we will focus on our own game. If we can get all the fundamentals right, we won’t be far away.”
